JalTool Excavator Diagnostic Tool for Engine, Hydraulic and ECU Faults
Modern excavators combine diesel engine management, hydraulic pump control, travel systems, swing functions, attachment control and multiple electronic control units. When an excavator becomes slow, loses hydraulic power or displays a warning message, the actual cause may be electronic, hydraulic or related to communication between control modules.
The JalTool Excavator Diagnostic Tool helps professional workshops, mobile technicians and construction companies perform a structured diagnostic process on supported excavators and off-highway equipment.
Common Excavator Problems That Require Diagnostics
Excavator symptoms are often similar even when the causes are completely different. A hydraulic performance problem may be caused by a pressure sensor, controller command, wiring fault, solenoid, hydraulic pump or engine power limitation.
- Slow boom, arm or bucket movement
- Weak digging force or reduced hydraulic pressure
- Unstable swing or travel operation
- Engine derate or reduced power mode
- Hydraulic warning light on the operator display
- Intermittent communication with the machine controller
- DPF, SCR, AdBlue or emissions-related warning codes
- Attachment or auxiliary hydraulic functions not responding
Using a professional diagnostic scanner before replacing expensive components can help technicians identify whether the problem is related to the engine ECU, hydraulic controller, sensor circuit, CAN network or mechanical system.
What Can JalTool Check on a Supported Excavator?
Available functions depend on the excavator manufacturer, model, production year, engine, ECU and installed system. On supported applications, JalTool may provide access to the following diagnostic areas:
| System | Diagnostic Application |
|---|---|
| Engine ECU | Read fault codes, view live data and check supported engine parameters |
| Hydraulic controller | Review supported sensor values and controller information |
| Travel and swing systems | Inspect supported control units and communication faults |
| Attachment control | Test supported auxiliary hydraulic and electronic functions |
| CAN communication | Identify supported modules and record network-related faults |
| Emissions system | Diagnose supported DPF, SCR, AdBlue and NOx-related systems |
| Service functions | Perform supported calibrations, resets, adaptations and adjustments |
Exact coverage must always be confirmed for the individual excavator. Use the JalTool Vehicle Coverage page or contact support with the machine details before ordering.
Recommended JalTool Excavator Diagnostic Workflow
1. Record the Machine Details
Write down the manufacturer, exact model, serial number, production year, engine model and diagnostic connector type. Also record the operating conditions under which the problem occurs, such as cold start, high engine temperature, heavy digging or travel operation.
2. Inspect Power and Wiring
Check battery voltage, fuses, grounds, connector condition and visible harness damage before starting the scan. Water, corrosion or loose terminals can cause communication problems that appear to be ECU failures.
3. Run a Full Supported System Scan
Connect the JalTool Scanner and scan all available electronic systems. Save active and stored fault codes before clearing them. A hydraulic warning may be connected to an engine derate, controller communication fault or low-voltage event.
4. Compare Live Data
Use supported live data to compare engine speed, coolant temperature, hydraulic pressure signals, joystick inputs, pump control values, sensor voltages and other available parameters. A value that remains fixed or does not match the actual machine condition may require further testing.
5. Perform Supported Actuator Tests
Where available, actuator tests can help verify solenoids, relays, valves, motors and other electronically controlled components. Secure the excavator before testing and follow the manufacturer’s safety procedure. Never operate the boom, bucket, swing or travel system when people are within the machine’s working area.
6. Repair, Calibrate and Verify
After repairing the wiring, replacing a sensor or correcting a hydraulic issue, complete any supported calibration or adjustment procedure. Clear the codes only after the repair, then perform another scan and save a diagnostic report for the service record.
Which JalTool Package Is Suitable?
Workshops that service excavators and other construction equipment can review the JalTool Professional Package, which is intended for supported commercial vehicle, agricultural and off-highway applications.
Businesses that work with trucks, agricultural equipment, construction machinery, forklifts, ground support equipment or marine systems can consider the JalTool Complete Diagnostic Package.
For workshops focused mainly on trucks and commercial vehicles, the Commercial Vehicle Package may be more suitable. The required connection hardware is available through the JalTool Diagnostic Scanner hardware page.
Confirm Excavator Compatibility Before Purchase
Manufacturer coverage does not automatically mean that every excavator model, engine or hydraulic controller is supported. Send the exact machine information and the function you need, such as hydraulic calibration, fault-code diagnosis, live data or actuator testing.
